SHORT ANSWER

1. ANS- The European Lock-up was meant for European convicts. It was different from the jail because it had no enclosing wall. A person inside his cell could have a fine view of the mountains and life outside.

2. Ans- In his autobiography, ‘The Discovery of India’, Nehru described that when he was in the prison of Dehradun, one thing that made him cooped up was the rain. Although Nehru belonged to a hilly region, one thing that he never liked was rain.

4. Ans- In Alipore jail in Calcutta one night Nehru felt something moving slowly over his feet. With the help of a torch he saw a centipede on his bed. He jumped out of his bed immediately with wonderful swiftness and almost touched the cell wall.

5. Ans- A huge monkey suddenly jumped down into the crowd which surrounded the baby monkey. The crowd fled terrified and thus the little monkey was rescued.

LONG ANSWER

11. Ans- Here, the poet speaks of the miserable life of the people dominated by the British. The poet sees India as a country where people’s minds are free from Fear and live dignified lives. He also wanted to communicate that freedom could be achieved when the mind was fearless and the head was respected and held high.

Ans- the poem is written by Rabindranath tagore, this poem is about freedom ,and how india was in pre-independence ,before indians get independent they were under control of british . the poet wants the citizens to live peacefully. according to the poet he wants this country to live without fear and with pure dignity.

13. Ans- In this piece he describes a period of solitary confinement that he had to undergo at Dehra Dun jail. He gives a detailed account of the sights and sounds he observed from his cell. He particularly mentions his experiences with the different insects, birds, small animals, stray dogs and kittens and so on.
